Pride
Thank you for your prayers.
Agnes Sanford said,
"If you think you have arrived at the station,
you will probably never get to your destination."
In other words,
if you begin with
"I am right,
and everyone else needs my help
to see what's wrong."
You are most likely the one
who is wrong.
Pride is the deadliest of all the deadly sins.
It makes you blind to the truth,
and unable to learn or receive correction.
In I Samuel
Samuel tells Saul about rebellion and the sin of witchcraft.
People never quote the second half of the verse:
"And stubbornness is as the sin of idolatry and iniquity."
The iniquity referenced here
is the sacrifice of children to the idol Moloch.
Not nice.
Remember what I said a few weeks ago
about the highest form of witchcraft?
Pride will lead you to think
doing great evil is good.
Pride made people think they were
doing God's will
when they crucified Jesus.
Religious pride is the most dangerous
because it makes you blind to God and to people.
There is a reason witchcraft became prevalent
following the Protestant Reformation.
You had an era in history when
rebellion and religious pride
forced a huge change in society.
Anytime you think you are right
and everyone else is wrong,
you are in danger.
Sometimes people think I am doing
this out of the box thing
because I think I am right and everyone else is wrong.
No,
God called me out of the system
and I am almost never comfortable.
I know I am breaking the rules,
and it is a vocation.
If you listen to my teaching,
you know that I submit myself
to the true faith of the church,
and diligently seek healing,
transformation,
and maturity.
I could not do this
if I was motivated by pride.
There are just too many deaths to self.
Are you beginning to see
that witchcraft is like a lobster trap?
You begin to go in
and then you cannot turn around and get out.
It begins with the enticing glamour.
The beauty of control and power over others.
Then you add a little bit of rebellion.
You feel that rush when you get your own way.
And then you begin to believe,
"I am better,
I am right.
I am a law unto myself.
The rules apply to others
but not me."
This is where it gets dangerous.
This is when you begin to act maliciously,
and begin to actively engage.
Power is a dangerous drug.
Lord,
help me see things as they really are.
Open my eyes
to every blind spot
caused by my own pride.
Amen.
