The late Queen Elizabeth,
at Christmas in 1939
handed her father a note.
Britain was about to face the Nazis,
and they would attempt
to destroy
London.

On the note were these words,
written by Minnie Louise Haskins:

And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year:
“Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.”
And he replied:
“Go out into the darkness
and put your hand into the Hand of God.
That shall be to you better than light
and safer than any known way.”

So I went forth,
and finding the Hand of God,
trod gladly into the night.
And He led me towards the hills
and the breaking of day in the lone East.

As this new year begins,
don't look back at what was.
Don't look back at the fuzzy fond memories.
Don't look back at the "what if's" and the "could be's."
Your best days are ahead,
not behind.

There is always more grace
and there are always new ideas
and things God will call you to do.
Other wars and battles are ahead
and we have a crafty enemy.
Look forward,
for although
the dark is getting darker,
a light is getting brighter.

If you are a Christian,
You are sacred space.
God chose to dwell in human flesh,
so that you could be the Incarnation,
Emmanuel,
wherever you go.
The Holy Spirit in you
has made you a son and an heir
to the fullness of the Kingdom of God.
And Saint Paul taught us
that if we are the habitation
of the Holy Spirit,
then we are temples.
Saint John told us
there would be no temple in the city,
because we shall behold God face to face.

You are the temple,
and you are the light.
And everywhere you go,
especially if you are an artist or creative person,
you are called to bring the light and love of heaven
into a dark and troubled place.

Put your hand
into the Hand of God,
it shall be to you better than light
and safer than any known way.

He Never Fails,

Christ
